Citrus House
A house designed and built for the once very rare fruit from exotic tropical lands: the citrus tree. The elevated structure is sited in a cherry grove on the south shore of Long Island. The sixteen-sided volume is constructed from salvaged glass panels, charred oak posts, steel post-anchors, and salvaged decking. Each wedge-shaped post sits on top of a steel post anchor so that the structure floats 3’-0” above grade. The charring technique used naturally protects the wood from pests and rot without the use of a sealer.
